Louis MacNeice – Meeting Point

Most famous, perhaps, for his long poem Autumn Journal, Irish poet Louis MacNeice wrote Meeting Point – from which we quote the first stanza – between 1936-38. Much of MacNeice’s poetry is lengthy, and structured (with a heavily classical influence) but a recurring theme is time, and our perception of it. In this short poem, 8 stanzas in total, MacNeice shrugs off his doubts and human fears to seize one moment from time. Beautiful.
